2,338 Notices of Inspection (NOI) and counting in 2011
An additional 1,000 employers are being contacted by immigration officials, requiring an inspection of their Form I-9 documents. These inspections are specifically designed to ensure that employers only employ workers that are legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Reportedly, this now makes 2,338 employers that have been audited in 2011. This is a marked increase from the number of worksite inspections in 2010 and supports U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) mission. The latest round of inspections is said to be focused on employers vital to national security and other government and economic functions.
We have seen a considerable increase in ICE I-9 audits in fast food and casual dining. janitorial and, now, national security, government and economic industries. ICE has demonstrated their commitment to investigating business across a wide spectrum of industry types, so far.
