RIDE: E-Verify Connects with DMV
In an effort to reduce fraudulent use of Driver’s Licenses and State Issued ID Cards, a new enhancement is more closely synching E-Verify with Motor Vehicle Agencies (MVA). The RIDE initiative increases the effectiveness of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) E-Verify (employment verification) program by automating motor vehicle document verification between Motor Vehicle Agencies (MVAs) and E-Verify.
USCIS and the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) are leveraging existing frameworks to allow for the integration between these platforms. Currently, Mississippi is slated as the first State to begin piloting this integration allowing for E-Verify to check Drivers License numbers with Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) data to validate accuracy. USCIS is interested in working with other states as well since the ability to accurately and efficiently verify the work status of employees who use their driver’s license depends on the ability to verify records from state MVAs.
While attending a recent IMAGE (ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers) conference held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), they indicated that E-Verify would soon begin implementing this feature in one state as a pilot, then begin incorporating other states as well. This appears to be the first step.
