New I-9 Retention Calculator
Have you ever wondered how long you need to retain a Form I-9? There seems to be a lot of confusion about this topic. The rule, according to DHS and USCIS, is that “employers must retain completed Form I-9s for three years after the date of hire or one year after the date employment ends, whichever is later.” This is often referred to as the 3 year, 1 year rule. There are exceptions to this rule, such as if there is a court order to retain all records until a legal matter is resolved.
